This workshop explores the evolving
landscape of audio media and its implications for young people’s communicative,
cultural, and informational practices. Tracing a trajectory from traditional
radio to contemporary podcasting and on-demand audio platforms, the session
examines how shifts in production, distribution, and listening habits have
transformed the role of sound in young people’s everyday lives.
Grounded in current research on
media literacy and youth participation, the workshop conceptualizes audio literacy as a multifaceted competence that
encompasses critical listening, narrative interpretation, multimodal
meaning-making, and the ethical use of audio information. Participants will analyze
how young audiences engage with audio content as listeners, creators, and
curators, paying attention to issues such as voice as data, algorithmic
recommendation systems, participatory podcast cultures, and the pedagogical
potential of sound-based media. Students will have the chance to create an
audio piece reflecting their interests, worries, passions etc.
