Official Statement of CUFA Academic Senate in Support of Ahmed Samir Santawy

To whom it may concern

The Academic Senate of Faculty of Arts, Charles University (CUFA), during its meeting on May 13, 2021 discussed the situation of Ahmed Samir Santawy, a student of the Central European University, who is being detained by Egyptian authorities on questionable charges. The members of the Senate would like to express their concern regarding this situation and as a token of their solidarity with Ahmed Samir Santawy they adopted the following resolution:

The Senate of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, calls upon the competent Egyptian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Ahmed Samir Santawy, a student of the Central European University and researcher in the field of women´s rights who has been arbitrarily detained and ill-treated since 1 February 2021 on bogus terrorism-related charges, and to ensure a prompt, independent, impartial, and transparent investigation of his case.
