Day Care

The daycare at the main building of CU FA offers the teachers, students and staff of the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, and Faculty of Law of Charles University a perfect place where their children can stay and rest for shorter periods of time.

Mental Health Support

At the Faculty of Arts and Charles University, a network of support options is available for staff who may need assistance. External organisations offering various forms of counselling are also available.

Students have access to the services of the Carolina Centre.

Consultations with psychological counsellors are free of charge for students across the entire University. They can be used to address study-related, family, personal, and other concerns. The counselling websites also include a directory of options for spiritual and pastoral support.

The Carolina Centre also offers the option of free consultations with a psychiatrist.

The counselling services of the Carolina Centre are not crisis-response services. Crisis hotlines and other support services outside the University can be found here.

The Faculty of Arts Psychological Counselling Service is intended for students and staff of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Subject to available capacity, it is also open to students of other faculties of Charles University.

The counselling services are provided free of charge. Please do not hesitate to contact the service, regardless of how serious your concern may seem to you.

The Centre for Spiritual Care integrates spiritual accompaniment, counselling, and therapy. It organises interactive courses, discussion platforms, public lectures, seminars, and other events in this field. The Centre offers support for inner life, resilience, values-based orientation, and interpersonal relationships.

The Carolina Centre is a comprehensive support unit of Charles University offering a wide range of counselling services. For up-to-date information, please see here.

The Psychology Students’ Association focuses its support primarily on fellow students, teaching staff, and other university employees.

The website provides links to useful applications, lay diagnostic tools, and infographics.

The portal provides free, rapid first-line psychological support. It includes modules on depression, anxiety and panic, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, personal logs, eating disorders, and contacts for professional help.

The non-profit organisation focuses on mental health prevention, disseminates practical and evidence-based information, and works to make conversations about mental health a natural part of everyday life in a modern society where no one feels ashamed to ask for help.

The Probation and Mediation Service provides professional support from trained specialists, probation officers, and victim support counsellors who are ready to offer assistance with the utmost sensitivity and empathy to individuals affected in this exceptionally challenging life situation. Charles University provides students with medical care through various channels. In addition to faculty-based facilities and public healthcare centres, the University has established cooperation with AGEL, the largest healthcare provider in Central Europe.

Medical consultations and services are also available to students without permanent residence in the Czech Republic. Contacts and detailed information on available services can be found here. International students may additionally use free psychological counselling services provided by the Carolina Centre and selected faculty counselling services.

Paluba Centre

Not only students with specific needs can make use of the services offered by this specialised unit of the Faculty of Arts. The services are intended for anyone who needs to consult matters related to specific needs in connection with their studies.

Educational and Psychological Support for Teaching Staff

Teachers and staff, who are in direct contact with students, could have attended online workshops on 5 and 8 January 2024.

The video recording of the “lecture part” is available in English and Czech.

Movement Therapy

The Department of Physical Education at the Faculty of Arts offers a wide range of sports activities as part of the Movement Therapy programme. You can register for online yoga and other sports activities.
Up-to-date offerings, including details and registration, are published on the department’s website and in Faculty news.

Canisterapy and Hippotherapy

Since the reopening of the main Faculty building following the tragic events in December, students and staff have been able to regularly encounter therapeutic animals and their handlers in the corridors from February 2024 onwards.

Support for Employees in Difficult Situations

If any member of the academic community finds themselves in distress, under pressure, or becomes a victim of a criminal offence, the Faculty of Arts has a wide range of mechanisms and professionals across multiple fields available to provide support.

Ombuds Office and Ombudspersons of CU FA

The Ombuds Office is a neutral and impartial body within the Faculty. It provides confidential and informal assistance to members of the academic community (students and staff) in a wide range of matters and concerns.

FaceUp: Reporting Platform

The Faculty participates in the Nenech to být project (now Face Up). This application functions as an anonymous online reporting and suggestion platform, helping members of the academic community address problems or submit constructive ideas for improvement.
