The general reconstruction of the Faculty of Arts main building on Jan Palach Square will be carried out gradually in 2017-2019. Most of the works will take place during the summers in order to avoid collissions with teaching and entrance exams as much as possible. This summer, the faculty will get a new glass lift, which was designed in the original conception from the 1930s. The lift will connect the main library, the courtyard, and all the floors of the building.
Apart from the lift, there will be a new staircase and bike shed in the courtyard. Some rooms will also be equipped with air-conditioning. In the upcoming years, the building will also get a new facade and new roof, and the interior will be renovated too.
The faculty management would like to ask all students, members of staff, and visitors for their patience and understanding during the reconstruction – the result will surely be worth the occasional inconvenience!
