Ana Adamovičová

Darina Ivanovová

I fell in love with Czech a long time ago, and my love for it has only deepened over many years of my teaching career. I enjoy working with people from different cultures and I am pleased to see how they move forward thanks to mastering a new language. This job has a meaning – it opens doors to new knowledge and helps them start a new life in a new country. Apart from teaching at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, I also regularly lectured at the University of Tampere in Finland. I am the author, or co-author of many Czech textbooks for foreigners: Nebojte se češtiny, Basic Czech I, Basic Czech II and Basic Czech III.

I teach Czech at the Institute of Czech and Deaf Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University and also works as a coordinator and methodologist of Czech courses in the global network of Czech Centres.

I worked as a Czech lecturer at the University in Tampere in Finland, at Beijing University of International Studies in China and at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Soeul.

As a co-author I wrote textbooks: Basic Czech I and II, Czech A1 and A2 for Korean speakers and Translation and interpreting for Korean students of Czech. I am an examiner of A2 permanent residency exam and B1 CCE exam in Korea. I have worked on projects of Acquisition of Second Language for Native Russian Speakers in Germany and Czech Republic and Reading and Writing Laboratory L2 (second language).

I like  good food, good people, the sea (because Czechia doesn’t have it 🙂 and traveling.

I am the author of a series of textbooks for elementary and lower-intermediate learners of Czech (A0–A2): Léto s češtinou I, II, IV. I have also written textbooks for intensive and follow-up Czech courses for students of ECES at the Faculty of Arts: Česky? Ano! and Čeština na každý den.

In addition, I am a certified examiner for the Exam in the Czech Language for Permanent Residence.

Hana Hejlová

I have been teaching Czech for foreigners for over twenty years. Currently, I work as an assistant professor at the Institute of Czech and Deaf Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University. I teach international Bachelor’s and Master’s students of Czech studies, exchange students, and other learners of Czech at various levels of proficiency.

In my language teaching, I focus on developing listening and speaking skills, particularly at higher proficiency levels. I am the lead author of the learning material Oral and Written Expression for Advanced Students (Czech for Foreigners).

I participated in the development of the Czech Language Certificate Exam at B1 level (CCE-B1), the preparation of test materials and oral examinations. I am a co-author of the workbook We Are Preparing for the Certified Czech Language Exam: Level B1 (CCE-B1). I am also a certified examiner for the Exam in the Czech Language for Permanent Residence.

In my personal life, I enjoy spending time in nature, good food, kind company, and learning languages.

Apart from teaching Czech at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, I also regularly lectured at the University of Tampere in Finland.

I am the author, or co-author of many Czech textbooks for foreigners: Nebojte se češtiny, Basic Czech I, Basic Czech II and Basic Czech III.

I have over 25 years of experience teaching Czech as a foreign language, both in individual lessons and group courses. At the Faculty of Arts at Charles University, I teach in the Czech Studies Programme and the Summer School of Slavonic Languages. I currently serve as the Academic Head of the Czech Studies Programme and Head of Teachers at the Summer School of Slavonic Languages. In the past, I taught Czech for foreigners at the University of Sheffield.

For me, teaching is not only about language acquisition, but also about introducing students to Czech culture, traditions, and everyday life in the Czech Republic.

Student’s references

„I was able to greatly improve my Czech thanks to studying Czech Studies. In class, I learned not only grammar but also many practical expressions that I can use in every-day life. The lessons were structured in a way that was very helpful for preparing for the CCE exams, which allowed me to achieve the B1 level.“

Eunseo, South Korea, Czech Studies: January 2025 – December 2025
