On-line Evening Course – Winter/ Summer Term

A flexible online course ideal for those who work or study during the day. Lessons are held twice a week in the evening, combining live sessions with self-study. 
The course focuses on practical communication, pronunciation, and everyday Czech used in real-life situations. 

Beginner level is opened every semester.

Taught entirely in Czech. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Vocabulary of 2,800–4,000 words 
  • Strong command of grammar
  • CCE B1 and B2 preparation week
  • Introduction to Czech history, literature, and cultural context
  • Confident communication in both every-day and professional settings 

Classes take place from Monday to Friday, typically 9:00–12:15. 


Afternoon optional courses include guided cultural walks through Prague.

At the end of each semester, students receive a certificate with grades for all subjects.

What you should know

To be admitted to the Czech Studies programme, applicants must: 

  • Have completed secondary school education (high school or equivalent). 
  • Register into SIS, submit on-line application, and submit all required documents (see below).
  • Pay the course fee.

  1. Download application, read it, sign it and scan it.
  2. Scan a copy of your passport (page with photo and personal details) and your secondary-school diploma or certificate of completion.
  3. Click on Register and follow the instructions to register into SIS and submit on-line application.
  4. After the registration, follow the instructions to pay the course fee.

The registration and submitting the application, passport and diploma must be done electronically via on-line system BEFORE the application and payment deadline. 

Students who require a long-term visa for study purposes should apply well in advance, as visa processing may take up to 90–120 days. 

Once your successfully register and the course fee is received, the  Faculty of Arts, Charles University will issue: 

  • an Official Letter of Acceptance, and
  • a Dormitory Agreement (if requested). 

These documents are required for your long-term visa application for the purpose of “Education.”  

  • Please note that the university does not provide visa consultancy services.

Students of the Czech Studies programme are offered accommodation in Charles University dormitories, conveniently located near the city centre and easily accessible by public transport. Accommodation is provided in double rooms within student flats that include: 

  • shared bathroom facilities, 
  • shared kitchen, 
  • internet connection (Wi-Fi or cable), 
  • basic furnishings (bed, desk, wardrobe, bedding). 

Accommodation can be arranged after acceptance into the Czech Studies programme. 
Once your successfully register and pay the course fee are received: 

  • a Letter of Acceptance, and 
  • a Dormitory Agreement, which can be used for your visa application if required. 

Students usually pay a monthly accommodation fee, depending on the dormitory and room type. Payment is made directly to the dormitory administration.

If you prefer private accommodation, you may arrange your own housing in Prague. The university does not mediate private rentals but can provide basic guidance and contacts for reliable housing platforms.

Students may join the semester up to the fifth Monday after the official start date of the programme. 
In justified cases (especially for advanced or native Slavic speakers), late entry may be allowed after consultation with the academic coordinator.

Attendance is mandatory for all courses. 
Classes start exactly on time, as indicated in the schedule. Arriving more than 15 minutes late counts as an absence. 

  • Absences must be excused in advance or by the end of the same day directly to the teacher or head teacher.
  • If you are absent for more than three days, you have to inform the programme administrator. 
  • If your attendance drops below 70%, you will receive the grade N (Not classified) for that subject. 
  • Unexcused absences may lead to exclusion from the programme without refund.

Our teachers and students

I fell in love with Czech a long time ago, and my love for it has only deepened over many years of my teaching career. I enjoy working with people from different cultures and I am pleased to see how they move forward thanks to mastering a new language. This job has a meaning – it opens doors to new knowledge and helps them start a new life in a new country.

Apart from teaching Czech at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, I also regularly lectured at the University of Tampere in Finland.

I am the author, or co-author of many Czech textbooks for foreigners: Nebojte se češtiny, Basic Czech I, Basic Czech II and Basic Czech III.  

I teach Czech at the Institute of Czech and Deaf Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University and also work as a coordinator and methodologist of Czech courses in the global network of Czech Centres.

I worked as a Czech lecturer at the University in Tampere in Finland, at Beijing University of International Studies in China and at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Soeul.

I wrote textbooks: Basic Czech I and II, Czech A1 and A2 for Korean speakers and Translation and interpreting for Korean students of Czech. I am an examiner of A2 permanent residency exam and B1 CCE exam in Korea. I have worked on projects of Acquisition of Second Language for Native Russian Speakers in Germany and Czech Republic and Reading and Writing Laboratory L2 (second language).

I like  good food, good people, the sea (because Czechia doesn’t have it 🙂 and traveling.
