All libraries at CU FA will be closed on dean’s day on Thursday 28 March and during public holidays on Friday 29 March and Monday 1 April. Libraries will reopen on Tuesday 2 April.
From 12 February, books and other documents from all libraries at the CU FA main building are visible in the UKAŽ discovery service. You can request books starting today and pick them up next week.

For 2024 we have several databases newly available. In this post you can find information about Oxford Music Online, Thesaurus Linguae Latinae, Online Egyptological Bibliography (OEB), Thesaurus Linguae Graecae and Oxford Bibliographies in Chinese Studies.

Dear readers, due to the tragic events of December 21, 2023 in the main building of the Faculty of Arts, the faculty management has decided to make the following changes in the operation of libraries and library services (please click on this post to view the full text).
As mentioned in the previous post, the libraries on the main building still remain closed. From January 3, laptops and loans from the main building can be returned to the Celetná Library, which will have extended opening hours (temporarily) (Monday–Thursday: 9 am – 6 pm, Friday: 9 am – 2 pm.)
The Rector's Sports Day offered staff and students at Charles University numerous opportunities to burn calories at various sports venues in Prague, Hradec Králové and Plzeň. The event was organised by the Department of Physical Education of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.
The Zagreb publishing house Srednja Europa has published a translation of the book <i>Ne baš lako socijalističko prijateljstvo</i>, written by Dr Ondřej Vojtěchovský and Prof Jan Pelikán from the Institute of World History at CU FA. The original publication was originally published by the Faculty of Arts Press in 2021.
The academic from the Institute of Translation Studies at CU FA received the prize on 27 April 2024 in Paris at the prominent school of interpreters and translators ESIT (Ecole supérieure d'interprètes et de traducteurs), part of the Sorbonne Nouvelle University.
As part of the seminar “Translation of Poetry” led by doc. Mariana Machová from the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at CU FA, Markéta Novotná, Maxmilián Filip, and Stanislav Cincibuch co-translated a poem by a prominent Irish poet commissioned to write a poem for the accession ceremony in 2004.
After a break caused by the December 2023 events, the regular student evaluations of educational activities are back. The anonymous electronic evaluation is open from 20 May to 2 June 2024. Provided feedback helps to improve the quality of everyone’s studies.
The Voice Communication Sciences (VoCS) project is an ambitious interdisciplinary project in which PhD students will explore the voice from multiple angles. The project will provide the students with a comprehensive training program based on applied linguistic research. A consortium of 21 academic and industrial partners, including CU FA, will collaborate on the project.
On 3 June 2024, a protest march drawing attention to the underfunded Czech higher education will set out from Jana Palacha Square towards the building of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in Karmelitská Street at 4:00 pm. The event takes place before the planned Chamber of Deputies 2025 budget negotiations.
Albanian studies academic from the IECEBS at CU FA received the Research Expertise in the Academic Diaspora Fellowship from Albanian-American Development Foundation along with two colleagues from “Fan S. Noli” University in Korca. Together, they will explore the role of cohesive devices in written academic essays in English and Albanian.
On 29 April 2024, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier personally commemorated the December tragedy victims at CU FA. His Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel, accompanied him to the faculty building on Jan Palach Square.
