Učená společnost: diskuse o organizaci vědy

Slavnostní Valné shromáždění Učené společnosti České republiky bude letos věnováno organizaci vědy. V diskusi vystoupí české i světové osobnosti a nastíní řadu otázek a problémů, které s tímto tématem souvisejí. Srdečně zveme všechny zájemce –⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠ organizaci vědy bude věnována především odpolední část shromáždění:

• 11.30: Marc Mézard: The many challenges faced by research and higher education

Mark Mézard je profesorem teoretické fyziky na Bocconi University (Milano). Zaměřuje se na statistickou fyziku neuspořádaných systémů s aplikacemi v různých oblastech, jako je teorie informace, informatika, strojové učení a biofyzika. V letech 2012 až 2022 byl ředitelem École normale supérieure. Je držitelem řady ocenění, např. Onsagerovy ceny Americké fyzikální společnosti (2016), Humboldtovy a Gay-Lussacovy ceny Humboldtovy nadace (2009), Ceny Ampère Francouzské akademie věd (1996) nebo stříbrné medaile CNRS (1990).

Marc Mézard (Bocconi University, Milano)

Gil Kalai (Hebrew University of Jerusalem a Reichman University): Organization of science in a small country and on diversity through the story of the Einstein Institute of Mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Gerd Folkers (ETH Zürich): The public life of scientific facts. Academic, commercial, and political influences on research and science, bringing us to the question of evaluation and who is going to decide upon what.

Matthias Christandl (University of Copenhagen): Quantum information science: overcoming boundaries in a truly interdisciplinary research area.

Břetislav Friedrich (Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft): Aspects of Open Science, especially those that pertain to scientific publishing and its transition to Open Access. I will provide historical background on the funding of scientific publishing and spell out the consequences for the dissemination of research results should this funding be slashed.

Jana Klánová (RECETOX, Masarykova univerzita): How is the research money spent? This is on the effectiveness of the research management with a close link to evaluation processes.

Zdeněk Strakoš (MFF UK): I will present some first principles, attributes of good approaches, and signs of failures. In order to motivate discussion, I will recall several existing practices.

Pavel Doleček (Deputy Minister for Science, Research and Innovation): The aim of the presentation is to highlight the systemic specificities in the governance model of Czech science and innovation, particularly in the context of current debates on future challenges, required competences, and the readiness (or willingness) to respond to them.
