Katedra sinologie FF UK zve na hostovskou přednášku a básnické čtení doc. Tammy Lai-Ming Ho (Honorary Researcher at the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library, University of Toronto). Přednáška s názvem „Voices in the City: Protest, Politics and the Power of Words in Hong Kong“ proběhne v úterý 6. května 2025 od 17:30 v Celetné 20, místnosti C506. Po přednášce bude od 19:00 následovat básnické čtení s názvem „Genres of Love: Poetry & Protest“. Přednáška i básnické čtení proběhne v anglickém jazyce. Doc. Tammy Lai-Ming Ho je básnířka, editorka, literární vědkyně a překladatelka narozená v Hongkongu. Je šéfredaktorkou časopisu Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, což je první online literární publikace v anglickém jazyce v Hongkongu, která byla založena v roce 2007, a spoluzakladatelkou akademického časopisu Hong Kong Studies. Dále je členkou edičních rad časopisů The Shanghai Literary Review a Voice & Verse Poetry Magazine. Aktivně přispívá do literárního a kulturního diskurzu v Hongkongu. Je čestnou výzkumnicí v Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library na University of Toronto. V současnosti žije v Evropě.

Anotace

The lecture „Voices in the City: Protest, Politics and the Power of Words“ in Hong Kong explores the profound role that words—through literature, poetry, and popular culture—play in political movements in Hong Kong. Writers, musicians, and artists have long harnessed their craft to mobilise, raise awareness, and give voice to the collective experience of protest. Whether through poetry that captures the emotions of resistance or songs that spread the ideals of democratic yearning, words have served as powerful tools of empowerment and unity. These creative expressions often become rallying cries, amplifying demands for justice and change while also preserving the history of activism for future generations.

The poetry reading „Genres of Love: Poetry & Protest“ will explore the dual themes of personal and political love. The author will read from her poetry collections from the past decade.
