Prof. Donald L. Horowitz: Federalism, Regional Autonomy, and Ethnic Conflict: Problems in Politics and Law

Prof. Donald L. Horowitz is the James B. Duke Professor of Law and Political Science Emeritus at Duke University (USA). He is a leading expert on constitutional design, particularly—but not exclusively—in divided societies. He has consulted widely on institutions and policies that might be adopted to promote democracy and reduce ethnic strife in such areas as Russia, Romania, Nigeria, Tatarstan, Fiji, and Northern Ireland. Prof. Horowitz is the author of eight books, including A Democratic South Africa? Constitutional Engineering in a Divided Society (1991), Constitutional Change and Democracy in Indonesia (2013), and the edited volume Electoral Reform and Democracy in Malaysia (2023). He will be speaking about his forthcoming book on federalism, regional autonomy, and ethnic conflict.

Prof. Donald L. Horowitz je emeritním profesorem práva a politologie na Duke University (USA). Je předním odborníkem na ústavní design zejména – ale nejen – v rozdělených společnostech. Dlouhodobě poskytuje konzultace ohledně institucí a politik, které by mohly podpořit demokracii a snížit etnické napětí na místech jako jsou Rusko, Rumunsko, Nigérie, Tatarstán, Fidži a Severní Irsko. Prof. Horowitz je autorem osmi knih, včetně A Democratic South Africa? Constitutional Engineering in a Divided Society(1991), Constitutional Change and Democracy in Indonesia (2013) a editovaného svazku Electoral Reform and Democracy in Malaysia (2023). Na své přednášce bude hovořit o připravované knize o federalismu, regionální autonomii a etnickém konfliktu.
