During the lecture I will examine „Šalamunism“ in young Polish poetry, exploring how the influence of Slovenian poet Tomaž Šalamun has sparked debate over the role of surreal imagination in contemporary literature. While advocates argue this poetics offers a vital critique of capitalist society through affective or „ecstatic“ writing (for example: in poetry of Jakub Grabiak, Julian Rosiński or Joanna Łępicka), critics dismiss it as either politically hollow or mere stylistic imitation. The discussion highlights a skepticism among poets themselves, who question whether dehistoricized surreal techniques can truly challenge modern commodification. Ultimately, I will also ask about the future of that phenomenon in poetry.
