From 12 February, books and other documents from all libraries at the CU FA main building are visible in the UKAŽ discovery service. You can request books starting today and pick them up next week.

Charles University or individual faculties purchase a large number of bibliographic and full-text databases with the support of the CzechELib project. See the overview list of databases that can be used in 2024.
For 2024 we have several databases newly available. In this post you can find information about Oxford Music Online, Thesaurus Linguae Latinae, Online Egyptological Bibliography (OEB), Thesaurus Linguae Graecae and Oxford Bibliographies in Chinese Studies.
We currently have active trial access to four eResources. Specifically, the scite_ tool, the Policy Commons: Global Think Tanks database and Korean databases KRpia and DBpia. More information on each eResource can be found in this post.
Dear readers, due to the tragic events of December 21, 2023 in the main building of the Faculty of Arts, the faculty management has decided to make the following changes in the operation of libraries and library services (please click on this post to view the full text).
As mentioned in the previous post, the libraries on the main building still remain closed. From January 3, laptops and loans from the main building can be returned to the Celetná Library, which will have extended opening hours (temporarily) (Monday–Thursday: 9 am – 6 pm, Friday: 9 am – 2 pm.)
Due to the recent tragic events, a dean’s leave was announced until January 2, 2024. Therefore, ALL libraries in ALL buildings will be closed until and including January 2, 2024.
Libraries located in Celetná, Šporkův palác and Na příkopě will reopen for readers on January 3, 2024.
However, all libraries in the main building will remain closed until further notice.
Personal belongings left in the premises of the main building of the Faculty of Arts on J. Palach Square will be distributed (against signature after verification of identity) today, i.e. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in the building of the Faculty of Law of Charles University, nám. The traditional sports festival of Charles University is organized this year by the Department of Physical Education at CU FA on 14 May 2024 in Prague, Hradec Králové, and Pilsen. Offering a wide range of activities, the event allows you to learn about new sports, compare skills and performances, and also meet with classmates and colleagues in an informal environment.
Since the opening of the main building of CU FA after the tragic events of December 2024, students and staff can regularly meet Snow, a therapy dog, in the corridors. The range of therapy animals and their human companions is gradually expanding.
According to the newly published international QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, Charles University has improved in three fields – history, linguistics, and philosophy. Amongst other fields, it is now one of the best schools in the global comparison in the field of archaeology.
Students of all study programmes at Charles University can apply for a grant, as individuals or in groups, with their projects supporting sustainable development at the university. The project can be carried out in English. The deadline for applications is 30 April 2024.
During her visit to Prague on 18 March 2024, the Slovak President stopped in front of the main building of CU FA to pay tribute to the victims of the December shooting. Under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Hana Vymazalová from the Czech Institute of Egyptology at CU FA, Dr Sue Kelly is working on a project “The Impact of Political and Climate Change on Women’s Agency: A Social Power Analysis.” It aims to comprehensively analyze women’s lives, exploring their social, economic, and political agency.
On 19–23 March 2024, Campus Hybernská will be transformed into a space based on Kafka’s topology in his prose and diaries and a laboratory searching for the essence of Kafka’s genius. Stage readings, panel discussions, educational workshops, pop-up galleries, site-specific performances, and musical performances will all aim to bring Kafka’s unique mythology to life.
On 21 February 2024, a Romanianist from the Institute of Ethnology and Central European and Balkan Studies at CU FA received the Romanian state decoration in the rank of Officer from the Romanian Ambassador to the CR, Antoaneta Barta, awarded by the President of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis, for the promotion of Romanian language and culture in the CR.
