Prof. Ekaterina V. Rakhilina (National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow): Lexical typology – verbs of falling across languages

Institute of Czech Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, is pleased to invite you to a lecture by Ekaterina V. Rakhilina, Professor of Faculty of Humanities at National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow.

Ekaterina V. Rakhilina is a linguist with a focus on the lexicography of nouns, semantic models, general semantics, lexical typology, construction Grammar. She is the initiator of the Russian learner corpora building and the error annotation.

The talk discusses predicates with the semantics of falling in a cross-linguistic perspective. The methods employed to analyse the domain are developed by the Moscow Lexical Typology (MLexT) Group and are based on detecting combinability restrictions of lexical items. These restrictions are further used to establish typologically relevant parameters that operate within a lexical domain. The talk gives a detailed overview of such relevant parameters and their grounds in the FALLING domain, and provides examples of their lexical manifestations from different languages.
