Charles University launches a new English-taught Bachelor’s programme in Psychology

The launch of the programme strengthens the integration of Czech psychology into the international academic community and contributes to its systematic alignment with international standards in teaching, research, and academic culture. The programme is designed to provide students with solid theoretical foundations, thorough methodological and applied training, and to foster critical thinking in line with current trends in global psychology.

The opening of an English-taught psychology programme at a public university is a major milestone not only for our department, but for Czech psychology as a whole. It enables us to systematically develop international cooperation, bring new perspectives into teaching, and further enhance the quality of the Czech-language programme,” says Tomáš Nikolai, Head of the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

The new programme will also have positive effects on the existing Czech-language Psychology programme, particularly through the sharing of teaching innovations, the development of courses taught in English, closer cooperation with international academics, and increased involvement in international research networks. The programme has strong support at both the faculty and university levels and forms part of Charles University’s long-term internationalisation strategy.

Additional benefits include increased attractiveness of studying psychology in Prague for talented students from around the world, the strengthening of a multicultural academic environment, and the creation of opportunities for the long-term development of the Department of Psychology. The programme will also support the professional development of academic staff, the internationalisation of the academic team, the transfer of international know-how, and the quality of research and teaching, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Czech psychology in the European and global context.

The launch of the English-taught Psychology programme thus represents not only an important step for Charles University, but also a substantial and long-term contribution to the development of psychology in the Czech Republic.
