Charles University defended its position on the Best Global Universities amongst the best world research-oriented universities. In the seventh year of the competition, it ranked the 210th position from fifteen hundred compared research universities from more than eighty countries in the world.
The international ranking competition Best Global Universities residing in the United States of America compares the degree of scientific activities of universities based on thirteen indicators scrutinizing reputation, excellence, intensity, and cooperation in the research activities. “For this year’s awards, the research activity of almost eighteen hundred universities from the whole world was analysed, then the ranking of five hundred of them was announced. In such a strong international competition, Charles University succeeded as it ranked the 210th best through which it repeated its last year’s position. It is a collective success of the whole Charles University academia,” said Tomáš Zima, the Rector of Charles University.
According to this year’s ranking, the best research university is Harvard University, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then by Stanford University.
Apart from the overall evaluation of universities, the comparison of the results of individual disciplines was announced. This year, Charles University has ranked amongst the best world institutions in twenty-four from the thirty-eight evaluated disciplines in total. In three disciplines – botany and zoology, physics and mathematics – it is placed in the first hundred. In other thirteen disciplines – astronomy, endocrinology and metabolism, surgery, immunology, cardiac and cardiovascular systems, oncology, clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, neuroscience and behavior, microbiology, environment/ecology, economics and business, arts and humanities – ranks amongst the two hundred world best institutions in these disciplines.
