President of India Visited Charles University

On Saturday 8 September 2018, the Indidan president Rám Náth Kóvind visited Charles University in Prague as part of his official three-day visit to the Czech Republic. The president met with several Indian students who pursue degrees in the Czech Republic and four Czech students of Indian Studies at the Faculty of Arts delivered short speeches in Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Tamil.

In his speech, president Kóvind emphasised the long tradition of Indian studies in Prague and of cooperation between the two countries.  The president received a gold medal of Charles University, signed the visitors book. and also saw an exhibition of Indian books translated from Indian languages into Czech.

Indian Studies are taught at the Department of South and Central Asia, Faculty of Arts, and students can specialise in several Indian languages. Indian Studies are currently taught on BA, MA, and PhD level.
