First Czech Translation of Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s Cré na Cille (1949)

Dr Radvan Markus (Centre for Irish Studies, Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures) has translated one of the most acclaimed novels in Irish of all times, Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s Cré na Cille (1949), into Czech. The translation is a significant step in making the best works of Irish-language literature available to the Czech readership. The commented translation, published by Argo, has been supported by Literature Ireland.

Cré na Cille („The Churchyard’s Soil“) by Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1906-1970) is considered one of the greatest novels written in the Irish language and has drawn comparisons to the work of Flann O’Brien, Samuel Beckett and James Joyce.
