Dr Radvan Markus (Centre for Irish Studies, Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures) has translated one of the most acclaimed novels in Irish of all times, Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s Cré na Cille (1949), into Czech. The translation is a significant step in making the best works of Irish-language literature available to the Czech readership. The commented translation, published by Argo, has been supported by Literature Ireland.
Cré na Cille („The Churchyard’s Soil“) by Máirtín Ó Cadhain (1906-1970) is considered one of the greatest novels written in the Irish language and has drawn comparisons to the work of Flann O’Brien, Samuel Beckett and James Joyce.
