Charles University Hosts 7th International Conference of the European Society for the History of Science

The topic of the conference is Science and Power, Science as Power. The event is going to be held on 22 – 24 September 2016. For the first time, such an extensive gathering of experts on history of science and technology takes place in Prague. The aim of ESHS is to connect historians of science, technology and medicine from all European countries and to organise conferences; it also publishes its own journal – Centaurus. Many non-European researchers cooperate with ESHS. The society awards the Gustav Peuenschwander Prize for contributions to history of science to excellent European academics. At this conference, Professor Robert Fox from Oxford University shall receive the prize.

The president of the conference is Professor Petr Svobodný, Director of the Institute for the History of Charles University. He shall also open the conference, together with Professoer Karine Chemla, President of ESHS, and doc. Mirjam Friedová, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The conference is going to take place at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and more than 500 participants from 50 countries have registered so far. The programme is divided into 15 parallel sessions.
