Irina Bokovova, Director-General of UNESCO, Visited Charles University

Director-General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokovova, visited Charles University in Prague. During her visit, she met with students and rectors and gave a lecture in the Karolinum entitled „The Role of Education in Preventing Violent Extremism“. Charles University Rector Tomáš Zíma and Ms. Bokovova discussed the conditions for further closer cooperation between Charles University and UNESCO and the preparations of agreement about future collaboration.

UNESCO has established partnerships with universities in several countries. During the discussion with Ms. Bokovova, Charles University declared its interest in cooperation in the humanities, especially in relations to the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Sciences. In the Czech Republic, only Masaryk University in Brno has established cooperation with UNESCO so far (in 1994, the Department of Museology and Unesco Chair of Museology and World Heritage was founded at the Faculty of Arts).
