Promoting Cooperation Between the Faculty of Arts and the Vietnam National University

On 2 December 2015, Dr Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi) and representatives of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language and the Faculty of Literature met with Dr Eva Voldřichová Beránková (Vice Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Arts, Charles University) to discuss opportunities for cooperation.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) is one of the members of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The university has signed more than 200 agreements with many universities and educational institutions around the world. In order to become a truly research university in the future, USSH would like to receive more support from its foreign partners in research and training in various areas.

IMG_0799Dr Voldřichová Beránková expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she received and suggested that the cooperation in teaching and research with USSH could start in the field of Vietnamese studies. Student and staff exchanges would be a benefit for both parties. In particular, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language and the Faculty of Literature at USSH should become involved in the cooperation. Both parties are looking forward to signing a memorandum which would be a formal expression of their wish to cooperate and to foster mutual friendship.

Dr Pham Quang Minh suggested that holding an international conference on Czech literature, culture and arts and opening courses in Vietnamese and Czech for students would be a good step forward. The two universities agreed to offer free-of-charge courses for the students of the partner institution. These activities will hopefully contribute to further appreciation of Czech culture in Vietnam and of Vietnamese culture in the Czech Republic, and will strengthen the Vietnamese-Czech relations in general.
