10th Summer School of Linguistics Shall Take Place in August

On 21 – 27 August 2015, 10th Summer School of Linguistics shall be held in Litomyšl. The summer school takes place under the auspices of Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and its aim is to provide students and young academics with an opportunity to get to know current trends in linguistic research.

An important feature of the summer school is great thematic diversity. The lectures focus on various areas of linguistic research, such as acquiring first and second language, psycholinguistics, language typology, corpus linguistics, neurolinguistics, phonetics, sociolinguistics, etc.

The summer schools has also a very important social dimension. It is not only an opportunity to gain knowledge about contemporary developments in linguistics but also to meet people interested in linguistics, enter into discussions, and ideally to start cooperation.

This year, 10 speakers shall give 26 lectures. Among others, the summer school shall host such important personalities of international linguistic research as Martin Haspelmath (Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History, Jena), Asifa Majid (Radboud University Nijmegen), Shanley Allen (Technische Universität Kaiserslautern), and Dan Dediu (Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen). Apart from lectures, there shall be two parallel workshops: one focusing on programming for linguistic research (David Lukeš), and the other concerned with structural specifics of classical and modern Chinese (Lukáš Zádrapa).

There is no fee and the participants pay only for food and accommodation. Registration is open until 15 May 2016, but the capacity is limited and those applicants who register first shall have priority. The main language of the summer school is English.
